We are planning a sustainable Port Kembla

WHO

This is a partnership between the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) at University of Wollongong, The Housing Trust (THT), the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), and Edmiston Jones (EJ), funded by the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund (PKCIF)

WHAT

Sustainable Port Kembla aims to improve sustainability in and around Port Kembla.
Our current projects are:
• paper bag trial to replace plastic shopping bags
• energy retrofits for The Housing Trust community homes
• energy retrofit pilots for Wentworth St businesses
• developing ideas for future sustainable actions in Port Kembla
• planning future energy and solar workshops

FUTURE

As the community benefits from upgrades and innovations from projects in our suburb, we will keep track of the effects and challenges as they occur. We hope this website will operate as a resource for all things sustainable in Port Kembla and the surrounding suburbs.

“Sustainability can’t be like some sort of a moral sacrifice or political dilemma or a philanthropical cause. It has to be a design challenge.”

– Bjarke Ingels
